Define a Letter Template

The main steps to define a letter template are the following:

  1. Create or modify a letter template. For more information, consult the page "About letters, invoices and labels templates."
  2. Use the Letter Editor to insert your logo, add text, tables, tax cells, and conditions, as well as adjust the margins, layout and general formatting of the letter.
  3. Test the template by merging it with tax return data.
  4. Save the template, then link it to a specific form in the Form Manager.

Tips:

  • From a formatting standpoint, templates for invoices and labels are also considered to be letter templates because they have the same file format (.clt), they appear in the same view (Letters and Labels), and they are also edited with the Letter Editor. Therefore, except where otherwise noted, instructions for working with letter templates also apply to invoice and label templates.
  • If you want the letter to include certain paragraphs for all of your clients, you do not need to enter this text in a conditional block. You simply enter the text as you would normally.
  • In the same way, to modify the text included in a conditional block without modifying the condition itself, modify the text as you would in a standard word processing application.
